What's inside

Four worlds, one adventure

The same four tabs your child will see in the app.

A Roko kingdom map with islands, towers and the companion on the path

Learn

A map of 9 kingdoms and 58 islands. Each island teaches one idea — how the knight moves, what check is, how to checkmate — with short voiced lessons and a companion by their side.

  • Lessons of a few minutes, with voice
  • Automatic review of what is hard
  • The history of chess, from India to today

Challenges

Over 16,900 chess puzzles that adapt to their level: when it goes well, it gets harder; when they get stuck, they get a hint, never a scolding.

  • Difficulty that adjusts itself
  • Hints that teach instead of solving
  • Goals and stars to come back tomorrow

Play

30 opponents, from the chick that can barely move to the dragon that shows no mercy, who cheer, sulk and celebrate. Plus 6 minigames with 180 levels to practice each piece.

  • Full games against the computer
  • Knight trail, Pawn duel, Checkmate mission and more
  • Opponents that react to every move

Me

Their companion — penguin, bear, cat, hedgehog, rabbit or turtle — its outfits, its room and everything they have achieved. What they learn shows.

  • 6 companions to choose and dress up
  • Gems earned by playing, never by paying
  • Clear progress for the child and for you

Grows with your child

One app, four ages

When you create the profile you choose an age range. Roko changes the size of everything, the amount of text and the pace.

  1. The Roko companion at age Ages 3–4

    Ages 3–4

Nothing to read: everything is voice, pictures and big buttons. They meet the board and the pieces through play.

  2. The Roko companion at age Ages 5–6

    Ages 5–6

Very short sentences and lots of voice. They learn how each piece moves and their first captures.

  3. The Roko companion at age Ages 7–8

    Ages 7–8

Now they read: short explanations, check and checkmate, and their first full games.

  4. The Roko companion at age Ages 9–12

    Ages 9–12

Tactics, openings, endgames and opponents that make them think. Without feeling it is an app "for little kids".

Made for parents

Peace of mind, not fine print

Roko is there for your child to learn, not to hook them or sell them anything.

  • Zero ads

No banners, no videos, no ad networks. Not now and not "in the free version".

  • No chat, no strangers

No friends, no messages, no leaderboards. Nobody can contact your child.

  • Works offline

In the car, on a plane or at home without wifi. The child never goes online.

  • No account required

We do not ask for their name or birth date. They pick a nickname from a list.

  • A locked Parents' Area

Settings, account and links sit behind a gate that a young child cannot open.

  • Delete everything, anytime

One profile or everything, from the app, in two taps. No need to ask us.

More than moves

Where chess comes from

Twelve illustrated panels tell how chess was born in India, traveled through Persia, reached Spain, where the queen became the strongest piece, and ended up on the board in your home.

Questions

What parents usually ask

What ages is Roko for?

Ages 3 to 12. When you create the profile you choose an age range (3–4, 5–6, 7–8 or 9–12) and the app adapts the size of everything, the amount of text and the difficulty.

How much does it cost?

Roko is free to download, has no ads and has no in-app purchases.

Does it need the internet?

No. The whole app works offline: you can use it in the car or on a plane. Only the optional account uses the internet to keep a copy of progress.

Can my child talk to anyone through the app?

No. There is no chat, no friends, no comments and no leaderboards. Nobody can contact your child through Roko.

My child cannot read yet. Can they use it?

Yes. In the 3–4 age range there is nothing to read: everything is explained with voice, pictures and big buttons.

I do not know how to play chess. Is that a problem?

No. Roko teaches from scratch, starting with what the board looks like. Many parents learn along with their kids.
